1. E-Passport

E-Passport is a biometric passport that has an embedded electronic microprocessor chip. The biographical and biometric (photo, fingerprint and cornea) information of the passport holder is stored in the electronic microprocessor chip. It uses smart card technology with microprocessor chip and antenna. In the electronic border control system, no person other than the actual passport holder will be able to cross the e-gate through the biometric features outside the passport chip and the information stored electronically in the passport chip through digital signature technology. By using e-passport, it will be possible to maintain greater security and complete immigration in a short time.

How to apply for an e-passport

a) First, fill out the application form online on the e-passport website. (e-passport website www.epassport.gov.bd)

b) Read the instructions carefully before filling out the application form. Attach the required documents/documents as per the instructions.

c) Pay the prescribed passport fee at the bank and attach the bank voucher to the application form.

d) Submit the completed form to the relevant regional passport office.

Required information:

01) No documents will be required to be authenticated in the e-passport application.

02) No photo will be required to be attached and authenticated in the e-passport form.

03) The application form will have to be filled as per the National Identity Card (NID) or Online Birth Registration (BRC) certificate.

04) Minor (below 18 years) applicants who do not have a National Identity Card (NID), must mention the National Identity Card (NID) number of their father or mother.

05) National Identity Card (NID) or Online Birth Registration (BRC) certificate must be submitted according to the following age-

(a) Online Birth Registration (BRC) certificate if below 18 years.

(b) National Identity Card (NID) or Online Birth Registration (BRC) certificate if 18-20 years

(c) National Identity Card (NID) is required if above 20 years. However, in case of application from Bangladesh Mission abroad, Online Birth Registration (BRC) certificate will be accepted.

6) Serial numbers marked with stars must be filled in.

07) In case of adoption/guardianship, the order issued by the Protective Services Division, Ministry of Home Affairs must be submitted along with the passport application.

08) The application should be submitted to the relevant Divisional Passport and Visa Office/Regional Passport Office/Bangladesh Mission abroad at the current address.

09) The validity of the e-passport for all applications below 18 years and above 65 years will be 05 years and 48 pages.

10) Relevant technical certificates (e.g. Doctor, Engineer, Driver etc.) should be uploaded/attached.

11) Relevant GO/NOC/Certificate/Post-Retirement Leave Order (PRL Order)/Pension Book should be uploaded/attached, if applicable, which should be uploaded on the respective website of the issuing authority.

12) Marriage certificate/Nikahnama and in case of divorce, divorce certificate should be submitted, if applicable.

13) In case of application within the country, VAT at the prescribed rate and other charges (if any) will be payable as an additional charge on the applicable fee. In case of application abroad, the fee prescribed by the government will also be payable.

14) For diplomatic passport, the application form should be submitted to the Consular and Welfare Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the head office of the Department of Immigration and Passports.

15) If an application is made for a new passport from a foreign mission, the contact address in Bangladesh should be mentioned in the permanent address column.

16) At the time of application, the original National Identity Card (NID), Online Birth Registration (BRC) and, where applicable, technical certificate, Government Order (GO)/No Objection (NOC) should be displayed/submitted.

17) In case of passport re-issue, the original passport should be displayed.

18) In case of lost passport, a copy of the original GD should be displayed/submitted.

19) You can check the current status of your application by visiting www.epassport.gov.bd and entering your Enrolment ID and Date of Birth provided on the delivery receipt from the Application Status option.
